Your First Visit

Attend the consultation session with your spouse.

Take at least 1 hour out of your day for this first consultation which will include a private consultation with Dr Somas as well as a number of tests and medical assessments.

You will have a chance to ask questions and discuss your fears and worries. Dr Somas will explain the causes of infertility and the available treatment options to increase your chances of getting pregnant.

Be ready to answer some very personal questions. Dr Somas will need honest answers in order to help you overcome your fertility problem. Both you and your husband will need to answer questions such as:

• How long have you been trying to conceive?
• Have you ever been pregnant before?
• Have you ever had any sexually transmitted diseases?
• What medical investigations have been done so far?
• What is your family medical history?
• What are your menstrual cycles like?

Next, you will undergo a physical examination which includes checking your thyroid, checking for unusual hair growth on face or body, conducting an ultrasound to check your uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes as well as getting a blood sample to check your hormonal status. You will also be given a Pap Smear.

Your husband will be asked about his medical history. He will need to provide a semen sample.

The visit is considered complete once you and your husband are done with these medical tests and assessments. Your estimated costs for your first visit is RM500 (consultation and medical tests).

You will be asked to return for another appointment where Dr Somas will go over the results with you and your husband. You will then be given options and decide the possibilities open to you as a couple intending to get pregnant.
